November 6th, 2015
A kind and humble cardiac surgeon, who has helped make the Cardiac Surgery program at St. Mary’s a provincial and national leader, will be honoured by the hospital on Thursday, November 12.
Dr. Yves Leclerc will be presented with the Lackner Award for Medical Excellence at the hospital’s Annual Community Update.
Dr. Leclerc joined the St. Mary’s Regional Cardiac Care Centre in 2005 and serves as Lead for Cardiovascular Surgery. Staff and physicians admire his expertise, patient centred approach and commitment to his team.
He has quietly purchased clothing for patients with no family and taken them for walks. He will come in on his day off to assist a colleague with a difficult procedure or to say hi to patients and families.
Dr. Leclerc answers questions from staff any time of day or night and shares his expertise with colleagues on volunteer missions to China, Sudan and many other countries. He was also instrumental in opening a satellite clinic in Owen Sound, enabling patients in that area to be assessed pre-and-post-operatively without having to travel to Kitchener.
St Mary’s is grateful to Dr. Leclerc for his devotion to our patients and families.
The Lackner Award is presented annually to a St. Mary’s physician who demonstrates excellence in patient care, innovation, compassion, and a commitment to the mission and values of St. Mary’s General Hospital and the St. Joseph’s Health System.
The award was established in 2005 to commemorate, recognize and honour the 80 years of service to the St. Mary’s Mission and Vision by Dr. Harry Lackner, his son Dr. Allister Lackner, and grandson Dr. John Lackner.
