Gastrointestinal Bleed Scan (GI Bleed)

Scan showing abdomenal bleedingThis scan looks for sites of bleeding within your abdomen. The procedure will take between one-and-a-half and four hours.

Exam Procedure

A tube of blood will be taken from a vein in your arm, the blood will then be labeled with a radioactive tracer and re-injected back into a vein. Images of your abdomen will be taken for a minimum of one-an-a-half hours, but can last up to four hours.
