The Reverend Rip Kirby Award of Excellence was established in 1995 to recognize St. Mary’s employees who demonstrate a commitment to the mission, values and to excellence, in the spirit of the the award’s namesake. Reverend Rip Kirby served as St. Mary’s Director of Pastoral Care from January 1985 until his sudden death on April 30, 1995. He was a visionary leader whose wise, warm, generous and caring attitude earned him the respect of patients, staff, families and physicians.
Recipients for the Rip Kirby award are chosen monthly. Congratulations to the latest winner, Darlene Oakes, who is most deserving of this award.
Darlene Oakes, Stores Clerk
Darlene Oakes is an optimistic and respectful Stores Clerk who exemplifies St. Mary’s values through her team orientated work ethic and by consistently showing compassion towards others. Darlene is a role model to her colleagues who admire her positive attitude and ever present willingness to help wherever needed.
Darlene was nominated for the Reverend Rip Kirby Award of Excellence by three co-workers who said, “her big smile is her outward appearance to the wonderful, warm, positive and loving personality that lies within.” She always shows genuine concern for patients, her colleagues say.
Darlene has worked at St. Mary’s for two years and says “my coworkers always help me out and support me. We get along wonderfully.”
