September 3, 2014 (Kitchener) – St. Mary’s General Hospital is developing a strategic plan to help serve the vast community it represents and achieve its Vision into the next three years (2014-2017) and beyond.

With a clear set of priorities for investment and growth, along with a promising strategy that will guide the Hospital’s future direction, the strategic plan will support St. Mary’s Vision to be the safest and most effective hospital in Canada characterized by innovation, compassion and respect.

“I am looking forward receiving and reviewing the feedback from those St. Mary’s serves to help us develop our strategic plan and continue down the right path into the future,” said St. Mary’s President Don Shilton. “St. Mary’s has a proud history of being a compassionate, innovative and caring hospital and our commitment to our community and our patients is the driving force behind our strategic plan for 2014-2017 and beyond.

To gather the feedback and opinions of key stakeholders, St. Mary’s asks the public, patients and visitors, as well as St. Mary’s staff, physicians and volunteers to provide their feedback in one of the following ways between now and September 16:

  • A “Green Dot” strategic planning exercise board available in the front lobby of the hospital until September 16. The exercise asks people identify specific areas they feel most important to the future of St. Mary’s.
  • Don Shilton, President of St. Mary’s, will be in the hospital’s front lobby on Wednesday, September 3, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to answer any questions and discuss the strategic planning initiatives.
  • In order to obtain feedback from the community, Mr. Shilton will host a community engagement booth along with Christine Henhoeffer, St. Mary’s General Hospital Board of Trustees Chair, at Conestoga Mall on Wednesday, September 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. near Winners. Everyone is invited to come by, ask questions, and participate in the planning process.

Results from an environmental scan, preliminary research, the survey and Green Dot exercise will be considered in developing the strategic plan. It is anticipated that the plan will be finalized and approved by St. Mary’s Board of Trustees in October 2014.
