Our vision

Dear Friends,

Welcome to St. Mary’s General Hospital. It is our privilege to care for you. St. Mary’s vision is to be the safest and most effective hospital in Canada, characterized by innovation compassion and respect.

St. Mary’s consistently performs well above the provincial and national averages for many health indicators and our patient satisfaction scores are among the best in Ontario. National data shows that St. Mary’s Regional Cardiac Care Centre is among the top three cardiac centres in Canada for patient outcomes. You can be confident in the care that you and your loved ones will receive here.

St. Mary’s has also become known as an international leader for applying Lean in Healthcare. Lean is a performance improvement method that empowers front-line workers to provide better and safer care.

Exciting changes are coming to healthcare in Ontario with the formation of Ontario Health Teams. These teams will include hospitals, doctors and home and community care providers working as one coordinated team. The result will be a more connected system from hospital to home that is easier for patients and families to navigate.

St. Mary’s recognizes the need to enhance partnerships with other health service providers in our communities. We welcome opportunities to better engage with patients and their families in planning for the future of healthcare. We embrace the principles of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Patient Declaration of Values – empathy and compassion, respect and dignity, accountability, transparency, equity and engagement.

For our nearly 2,000 staff, physicians and volunteers at St. Mary’s, the priority is keeping patients and their families at the center of all we do every day. We hope that we will not only meet, but exceed your expectations during your stay.
