Ribbon-cutting ceremony marks completion of final phase of cardiac program redevelopment
St. Mary’s is elated to announce that the final phase of redevelopment for the Heart Rhythm Program, part of the hospital’s Regional Cardiac Program, has been completed.
On May 12, we celebrated the opening of the new patient recliner and clerical space in the Cath lab with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Though construction started in fall of 2019, the recliner space was the final stage of a redevelopment project several years in the making.
This project could not have happened without our generous community, which contributed $5.6 million of the $13 million needed. The project came together in four phases:
- The Device and Arrhythmia Clinic on the first floor opened in November 2020
- The EP Suite was completed in January 2021
- The Pre/Post-Heart Investigation Unit (PHIU) opened in March 2021;
and - The Cath lab recliner space and clerical space was finished in May.
Adding to the scope of the project was the challenge of completing it during the COVID-19 pandemic. After a two-week pause at the beginning of Wave 1, the project was able to proceed. It was supported by St. Mary’s leadership and staff, a redevelopment team and so many internal and external stakeholders, from the pre-capital initial submission to the Ministry of Health capital planning stages and the construction and implementation of the programs.
This infrastructure was needed to meet the demands of growing, underserviced programs at the hospital. It will also allow us to continue to provide quality care and services much closer to home for patients in Waterloo-Wellington and the surrounding areas.
Thank you to all of our community donors as well as the Ministry of Health for providing funding for this important project. We couldn’t have done it without you
