In consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on its third floor. Two patients and one staff member are currently associated with this outbreak. Our thoughts are with them as they continue to recover.
The following precautionary measures are in place as we continue to investigate:
Contact tracing and the testing of high-risk exposures has been initiated.
Droplet contact precautions and enhanced cleaning continue.
Care Partner visits are temporarily suspended, except in exceptional circumstances, such as when a patient is at end-of-life or if the care team determines there could be a marked improvement in a patient’s condition with a visit. Efforts have been enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners.
Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
We thank our teams for continuing to work tirelessly to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Seeing this outbreak reminds us of the challenges we face with the Delta variant of COVID-19. We are doing all we can to prevent this kind of spread, including through our vaccination policy and ongoing maintenance of regular public health measures.
