COVID-19 outbreak declared on its fourth floor
January 13, 2022
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak on its fourth floor. So far, 4 staff and 2 patients are associated with this outbreak. This declaration follows an investigation which revealed the start of the outbreak as January 10, 2022 and is anticipated to continue until January 24th. Our thoughts are with the staff and patients, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated include the following:
- Patients who have tested positive on 400 will remain in isolation on 4-100 and patients who have tested negative will be clustered in 4-500. New admissions will only continue to 4-500.
- Rapid antigen testing will continue for all 400 staff prior to shifts until January 24th.
- Point prevalence will continue January 14th and 17th.
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit and N95 masks or half-mask respirators and face shields will be worn by all staff on the unit.
- If your half-face respirator is unavailable, choose your N95 and discard at breaks, not after each patient.
- Staff will remain dedicated to the unit.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.
- Care Partner visits are temporarily suspended, except in exceptional circumstances. Efforts will be enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners.
More updates will be provided as they become available.
