COVID-19 outbreak declared in St. Mary's Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD)
February 6, 2022
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak in our Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD). So far, four staff have been deemed associated with this outbreak and no patients. This declaration follows an investigation.
It is anticipated to come out of outbreak February 11th. Our thoughts are with the staff, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated include the following:
- Point prevalence PCR testing will occur for staff.
- We have thoroughly reviewed workflow and will be implementing measures to mitigate risk while ensuring that critical work can continue.
- Staff who have been assigned to MDRD will remain in MDRD.
- Staff who are being returned back to MDRD may be utilized to transfer devices for delivery and pick-up to other units. Measures will be implemented to minimize crossing between OR attendants, MDRD attendants and other unit staff, where possible.
- Contact tracing is underway and anyone deemed to require testing will be contacted.
More updates will be provided as they become available.
