COVID-19 outbreak declared on St. Mary's Third Floor East Unit
March 22, 2022
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak on our Third Floor East Unit. So far, three staff are associated with this outbreak and no patients. This declaration follows an investigation which revealed the start of the outbreak as March 18, 2022. We anticipate being able to resolve the outbreak on March 28th. Our thoughts are with our staff, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated include the following:
- Due to capacity pressures, admissions will continue but patients and staff will be geographically separated by creating a split unit that will include separate breakrooms for staff.
- Rapid antigen testing and PCR testing will continue for staff prior to work.
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit and N95 masks or half-mask respirators will be worn along with face shields.
- Staff will remain dedicated to the unit.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.
- Care Partner visits are suspended, except in exceptional circumstances. Efforts will be enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners.
More updates will be provided as they become available. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you would like to schedule a virtual visit with your loved one, our Patient Experience & Relations team is happy to assist.
