COVID-19 outbreak declared on St. Mary's Fourth Floor Medicine Unit
March 30, 2022
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak on the fourth floor Medicine Unit. So far, four patients and two staff are associated with this outbreak. This declaration follows an investigation which revealed the start of the outbreak as March 29th, 2022 and is anticipated to continue until April 8th. Our thoughts are with the staff and patients, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated include the following:
- Rapid antigen testing and PCR testing will continue for staff and patients
- Only COVID positive patients will be admitted to the fourth floor during this time
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit and N95 masks are to be worn by all staff on the unit, with half-mask respirators preferred.
- Face shields, with both N95 and respirator options, must be worn.
- Staff will remain dedicated to the unit.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.
- Care Partner visits are temporarily suspended, except in exceptional circumstances. Efforts will be enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners.
More updates will be provided as they become available. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you would like to schedule a virtual visit with your loved one, our Patient Experience & Relations team is happy to assist.
