St. Mary’s declares a COVID-19 outbreak on the fourth floor medicine unit
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak today on our fourth floor medicine unit. So far, two patients and two staff are associated with this outbreak. We anticipate being able to resolve the outbreak on May 18th. Our thoughts are with our patients, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated include the following:
- Patients who have tested positive will be cohorted together as will patients with known exposure.
- Point prevalence will be repeated on patients on May 10th.
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit and N95 masks or half-mask respirators and face shields will be worn by staff.
- Staff will remain dedicated to the unit.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.
- Care Partner visits are suspended, except in exceptional circumstances.
- More updates will be provided as they become available.
We understand how difficult this is for everyone. For anyone not able to visit someone in our care in person, our Patient Experience & Relations Team can help facilitate virtual visits. Please reach out to them and they will be happy to help.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to everything that we can collectively to protect one another.
