COVID-19 Outbreaks Declared on St. Mary's Fifth and Seventh Floor Medicine Units
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring COVID-19 outbreaks on the fifth and seventh floor Medicine Units. So far, 10 patients and three staff are associated with these outbreaks. This declaration follows an investigation which revealed the start of the outbreaks as July 6th, 2022 and they are anticipated to continue until July 16th. Our thoughts are with the staff and patients, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated include the following:
- PCR testing will continue for staff and patients
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit and N95 masks are to be worn by all staff on the unit, with half-mask respirators preferred.
- Face shields, with both N95 and respirator options, must be worn.
- Staff will remain dedicated to the unit.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.
- Care Partner visits are temporarily suspended, except in exceptional circumstances. Efforts will be enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners.
More updates will be provided as they become available. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you would like to schedule a virtual visit with your loved one, our Patient Experience & Relations team is happy to assist.
