Volunteering at St. Mary's

This committed group of community-minded individuals are an integral part of the St. Mary’s family. They work alongside our staff, patients and families, providing supplementary patient services/support and provide financial support for capital projects.

Volunteers generously provide service in 37 areas and have contributed over 39,000 hours of volunteer service on an annual basis. Each volunteer brings their unique life experience and skills to their volunteer role. We value the contributions and services our volunteers provide to enrich the lives of others and we strive to make their volunteer experience a positive one. Come join our amazing team!

We sincerely appreciate your interest in wanting to donate your time to enhance the experience for our patients and families. We are looking for individuals whose personal values complement those of the organization; compassion, respect, inclusion, integrity, collaboration, and innovation. Volunteer opportunities exist in patient care areas, retail and fundraising. Your volunteer service will depend on your area of interest, your availability, and our current open opportunities. Volunteering at St. Mary’s offers opportunities for:

  • Learning new skills and gaining healthcare experience
  • Making new friendships
  • Giving back to the community while making the difference in the lives of others
  • Free Tim Hortons beverage during your volunteer shift

Once the form has been received and reviewed, if there is a vacant volunteer role that suits your needs, you will be contacted for an interview.

Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years of age and be committed to volunteering once per week for approximately three hours per shift, for at least nine months.

As a volunteer, you will be asked to complete the following:

  • A vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Two part TB skin test, up-to-date immunizations or proof of immunity to MMR, Tetanus and Varicella. Two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine is also required.It is the responsibility of the volunteer to contact a health care provide to make arrangements to have this provided.
  • Two positive references
  • Attend an orientation session

Please note that the intake process may take two to three months to complete.
