Outbreak Declared Over on St. Mary’s Cardiology Unit
An outbreak of gastrointestinal illness on the third floor inpatient Cardiology unit at St. Mary’s General Hospital was today declared over in cooperation with Waterloo Region Public Health. The outbreak was first declared on April 18.
During the outbreak there were patients under observation, and a thorough investigation and review determined that two patients were part of the outbreak, not three as originally reported. Six staff were also affected.
Gastrointestinal illness is circulating in the community and the public is asked to refrain from visiting if they are sick. If you are visiting, use hand sanitizer prior to entering and exiting both the unit and patient rooms. Also if you are visiting someone in isolation, please make appropriate use of the recommended personal protective equipment.
Thank you for your cooperation.
