Our Culture

Our culture is founded in our values: compassion, respect, inclusion, integrity, collaboration and innovation. These are the things that our patients and colleagues can expect from us, both in the hospital and in the community.

As we walk through the halls of the hospital, you will see posters and pamphlets calling out for staff, physicians and volunteers to join in on upcoming opportunities – wellness workshops, lunch 'n learns, special days and events. Through our many programs, we strive to make our diverse team feel welcome, included and supported during their career at St. Mary’s. Everything is optional and open to everyone.

For each individual, there are many perks and benefits that make St. Mary’s the ultimate choice. With competitive compensation, health and dental plans, wellness programs and on-site library, you will be well supported to have the career you've always wanted. We also offer exclusive access to various discounted products and services through Perkopolis, on-site services and online on-demand fitness memberships, so you can take charge of your health.

While we could talk all day about the benefits of our program and how it can help enhance your professional skills, manage stress, make healthier choices and create a better work-life balance, we'll leave that for you to discover when you're ready

Our people are the heart of our hospital. We are committed to the wellbeing of all employees and ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace that provides safe, accessible and equitable care for all.

Diversity and inclusion are key factors in organizational success. When we understand, accept and consciously work toward realizing the benefits of unique perspectives and experiences we become a stronger team. Positive change and innovation happen best in diverse and inclusive environments.

Staff are invited to participate in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) training opportunities and we continually add training and opportunities for our team to get involved in working groups and specific EDI initiatives.

We currently have a multi-disciplinary group working through St. Mary’s actions with respect to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action specifically addressing Health Care in Canada.

As a hospital, we celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day in June and our staff observe and participate in Orange Shirt Day in September. For those looking to learn more about Indigenous history, we offer training and opportunities to work on EDI initiatives.

Our senior leadership team is also very supportive of staff who spearhead new initiatives within the organization.

Staff are welcome to join in celebrating pride month each year in June when we show our support for the LGTBQ+ and two spirited community. St. Mary’s raises the Pride flag for the month of June and our Spiritual Care team provides a “reflective pause” in celebration and support.

Get involved! Join the Mental Health Action Team (MHAT).

These passionate mental health champions and ambassadors work to promote, continually evaluate and improve our workplace mental health & wellness strategy and programming.

We lead by example as a multi-disciplinary group.
