Smoking Cessation

If you, or someone you know receives care at St. Mary’s, whether they are visiting an outpatient clinic or are an inpatient on one of our units, they will be asked their smoking status. Ensuring that our patients understand the importance of smoking cessation is part of the mandate of our smoking cessation program. All patients will be advised of the importance of smoking cessation and be given helpful, supportive, non-judgemental information to help in their efforts to quit smoking, as well as treatment for symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Follow-up is arranged through our Smokers Helpline Fax Referral Program and all patients receive self-help materials including important numbers and web sites to help in their smoking cessation journey. Everyone at SMGH is committed to helping our patients achieve a smoke-free status.
