Outbreak Declared on 7th Floor (700) Medicine Unit
In consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is unfortunately declaring a COVID-19 outbreak on our 700 Medicine Unit. At this point in time, we are considering eight patient cases associated with the outbreak, however, epidemiology testing continues to determine the nature of each case.
Point prevalence testing for patients will occur Thursday, June 22nd. Should all testing return negative, our hope is to come out of this outbreak on Tuesday, June 27th.
Our thoughts are with our patients and colleagues and as always, we wish them a safe and speedy recovery.
Immediate Actions:
- Universal masking comes into effect for all team members working on 700 throughout the unit.
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit.
- Care Partner visits on these units are suspended, except in exceptional circumstances (universal masking in effect). Efforts will continue to be made to connect patients with Care Partners by phone or virtually. Patient Experience will assist in notifying patients’ Care Partners on these units.
- Admissions are restricted unless COVID-19-positive or -resolved as directed by IPAC.
We will share updates as we can. Outbreaks are challenging for everyone. We are grateful for everything that you continue to do to keep everyone safe.
