COVID-19 Outbreak Updates on St. Mary's Sixth and Fourth Floors
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring an end to the COVID-19 outbreak on the Sixth Floor and declared an outbreak on our Fourth Floor. Our thoughts are with the staff and patients, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Update on the Sixth Floor COVID-19 Outbreak:
In consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring an end to our COVID-19 outbreak on our Sixth Floor. In total, the outbreak impacted 10 patients and 13 staff and we continue to wish everyone well in their recovery. We know how difficult this has been for our staff and patients and extend our utmost gratitude to you all. Care Partner visits can resume.
New COVID-19 Outbreak Declared on the Fourth Floor:
In consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, St. Mary’s is declaring a COVID-19 outbreak on our Fourth Floor. So far, eight patients and two staff are associated with this outbreak. This is anticipated to continue until August 15th. Our thoughts are with the staff and patients, and we wish them well in their recovery.
Immediate measures initiated on our Fourth Floor include the following:
- PCR testing will continue for staff and patients
- Droplet contact precautions are in effect throughout the unit and N95 masks are to be worn by all staff on the unit, with half-mask respirators preferred.
- Face shields, with both N95 and respirator options, must be worn.
- Staff will remain dedicated to the unit.
- Enhanced cleaning continues.
- Care Partner visits are temporarily suspended, except in exceptional circumstances. Efforts will be enhanced to connect patients by phone or virtually with Care Partners.
