A Work of Heart
This work of heart was created to commemorate 20 years of cardiac surgery at St. Mary’s General Hospital. On Jul 7th, 2003, CVICU opened its doors to our first cardiac surgical patient. Our program has only grown since then.
This mural is a tribute to the team that makes our cardiac surgical program successful. Our team is diverse in culture, background, gender and is multidisciplinary. It is our diversity that helps make our program strong. Every single team member is needed to make our program a success. You can see this diversity represented in the hands in our mural. May diverse, skilled, talented, loving, kind hands are needed to care for our patients. The hands also reflect the four nurses that created this mural. An effort that took over 200 combined hours to create.
Our team has heart. We are all dedicated to our patients and our program. Many of the staff have worked here since the program began 20 years ago. The heart in this mural represents the skill required to both repair and recover our patients back to health again as best as we can. It represents the love for our work and our patients.
The thousands of caps used in this mural were all used in some way in the care of our patients. They came from medication vials, IV tubing, and procedure kits. The caps represent the difference that was made in someone’s life. Thousands of lives have been impacted by our program here at St. Mary’s.
On this 20th anniversary, we dedicate this mural to our patients and the CVICU team.
Thank you to Gina Quiring, Lisa Crowley, Joanne Kavelman, and Christine Jowett, the Work of Heart team.
